Transmashholding and LocoTech-Signal to Open a Competence Center for Driverless Technologies in Innopolis

Transmashholding in partnership with LocoTech-Signal will open a competence center for driverless technologies in Innopolis and might launch driverless trains in the Kazan Metro before the end of 2021.

The development of driverless transport in Tatarstan, including launching driverless trains in the Kazan Metro, was discussed at the meeting between the President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the management of Transmashholding.

At their previous meeting in August, the parties documented the main areas of their partnership, in particular the development of driverless transport in Tatarstan. A working group composed of TMH specialists, representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Roads of Tatarstan, Metroelectrotrans, the Executive Committee of Kazan, the special economic zone Innopolis, and Kamaz, was created.

It was stated at today’s meeting that Transmashholding is opening a Center of Competence for driverless technologies in Innopolis.

Rustam Minnikhanov noted that Transmashholding has been successfully cooperating with Innopolis and said that he was sure that the creation of the Center of Competence for driverless technologies would be another step toward the development of their business relations.

Kirill Lipa, General Director of Transmashholding, briefly explained the project for Russia’s first fully driverless subway based on the Kazan Metro, saying that TMH was ready for its implementation and that it was possible to implement it in the Kazan Metro by the end of the following year.

Transmashholding Managing Director Andrey Romanchikov made a presentation on driverless trains in the Kazan Metro. According to him, driverless trains facilitate the development of lightly-manned energy-efficient technologies and are focused on the passenger. The trains are operated via a radio channel.

Transmashholding President Andrey Bokarev also said that he was sure that the cooperation between the specialists of THM and the Innopolis University will be successful for the development of driverless trains in the Kazan Metro and the creation of modern software.
